Upgraded 530 size is stock on many higher horsepower Suzuki applications that need a stronger chain, but in the case of the SV650. You will enjoy a longer lasting complete drive train package that will also require less frequent adjustment and/or replacement. Combine this with “Freeway Commuter Gearing” for the ultimate SV650 Commuter kit. The 530 kit weighs just over one pound more than the oem 525 with. Negative side affects, but lasts 30% longer. You will feel NO difference in performance with the same number of teeth. The number of teeth on the sprockets determine the ratio, not the 525 or 530 size. The simple difference between 525 and 530 size is 2mm in width. The 2mm wider 530 sprockets and chain spread out the load better, providing more strength and durability. A -1t front sprocket change is EXACTLY the same ratio change as +3t rear sprocket change. A 520 size chain is approx. Than a 525 chain, and 4mm. Than a 530 chain. Less mass equals lighter weight equals easier to spin, but the ratio (teeth size) change makes the big difference. The sprocket width matches the chain width where it rides on the sprockets, thus a 520 chain must use 520 sprockets, and a 525 chain must use 525 sprockets, etc.. A larger rear sprocket number of teeth size requires a longer chain, however +1 or -1 tooth on the front sprocket only will use the same chain length. This change will be quicker for sure, but your top gear cruising rpm’s will be higher, and your top speed will be slower. For FASTER TOP SPEED, and LOWER HIGHWAY CRUISING RPM’s , request a 16t front sprocket. A 42t rear sprocket. The +1t front sprocket change is more versatile because you can change back to the stock size 15t with same chain. The -2t/-3t rear sprocket change requires a different chain length, which needs altered to go back to stock. This change will be lower top gear crising rpm’s, and faster top speed for sure, ut will be slower in first gear take off. Original Factory Supplied OEM size sprockets are the calculated “Happy Medium” of off the line acceleration, roll on’s, and high speed engine rpm’s with the. Least amount of compromise on either top end or low end. Note; some SV’s come with 44t rear as orig. Equip, and some come with 45t. One tooth on the rear is a very slight change, but 45t is just a little quicker which is the most popular size. A 1 tooth change in the front is equivalent to a 3 tooth change in the rear..
